Hi! I’m Janine.
“Competing” encompasses a large part of who I am and what I love. When I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 1997 the outlook described to me for a happy and healthy future was unlikely. I was told that I would never be able to attend University or hold down a job for any length of time. I would require medication for the rest of my life and ultimately it was inevitable that I would lose parts of my intestine with an increased likelihood of cancer and a possible early death. Fast forward 20 years – surgery free, medication free, a university degree, a career I love, and a passion for nutrition and fitness that I credit with saving my life. That passion for health and fitness has led me to compete in five bodybuilding competitions where I most recently placed 4th on a Canadian National stage.
As I work towards my next goal of placing top 3 at the Vancouver Pro Show in July 2018, I wanted to create a safe space for people to interact about what it is they’re “competing” with in their own life. A place to embrace health, share positivity, and tell stories that empower. Together we can raise awareness; not only about IBD, but about adversity and how none of us are immune to it. It’s not your challenges in life that define you. It’s how you perceive and rise to those challenges that leave your legacy. I’m looking forward to writing a small piece of that legacy together.
Yours in Positivity and Health.
” When it comes to competing with others on a fitness stage – there’s not much that can compare with that feeling. When it comes to competing with Crohns and winning that battle in real life? Well, that’s the best feeling of them all“. – Janine
